Apple Wallet loyalty cards

A branded loyalty card customers can keep in Apple Wallet.

StayLoyal creates digital loyalty passes for Apple Wallet, so customers can keep reward progress on iPhone and access the pass on Apple Watch—without installing a separate merchant app.

Native Wallet pass

The pass uses the Apple Wallet experience rather than a screenshot or downloadable image.

Customer QR

The pass includes the identifier staff scan to retrieve the right loyalty record.

Pass updates

Supported card and loyalty changes can refresh issued passes through Apple's pass services.

How an Apple Wallet loyalty card works

A customer opens the program's enrollment page on their phone, provides the program's required information, and chooses Apple Wallet. The generated pass is signed for Apple Wallet and tied to the customer and loyalty program.

On return visits, the customer opens that pass. Staff scan its code with StayLoyal and record a stamp or reward action permitted by the card state.

  • No customer app account required
  • Access on iPhone and Apple Watch
  • Branded program information on the pass
  • The same pass can remain after a reward is redeemed

What the business controls

The merchant controls the loyalty rules, reward details, customer-facing terms, program colors, and approved logos. Apple controls Wallet rendering behavior and platform requirements, so some layouts and behaviors differ from Google Wallet.

StayLoyal previews the supported Apple store-card layout in the card studio. A preview is useful for design review, but the final installed pass remains subject to Apple's Wallet behavior.

  • Program and reward copy
  • Wallet-safe colors and logos
  • Active, paused, and archived lifecycle
  • Team scanner workflow

Useful updates between visits

On Pro and Ultimate, merchants can send targeted or scheduled Wallet campaigns and set up a first-visit Google review request. A supported update can make the message available on the customer's pass, while the final alert behavior remains controlled by Apple and the customer's settings.

Link a program to its locations and configure a nearby reminder. Apple Wallet may suggest the saved card when it is relevant near a store. This is native Wallet relevance, not a StayLoyal service tracking when someone enters or leaves a location.

  • Targeted and scheduled Wallet messages
  • First-visit review links
  • Location-linked nearby relevance
  • Device settings and Wallet behavior still apply

Plan for operations, not only design

A Wallet pass still needs a clear counter process. Decide where customers enroll, who can scan, when a reward is considered redeemed, and how mistakes are corrected.

Apple Wallet availability does not create a point-of-sale integration. If the business needs purchase-level reconciliation, custom POS work should be evaluated separately rather than implied by the loyalty pass.

  • Test enrollment on a real supported iPhone
  • Train staff to scan the customer pass
  • Keep public terms and reward copy current
  • Monitor pass-update and provider failures

Questions businesses ask

Clear answers before you start.

Do customers download an iPhone app?

No separate StayLoyal customer app is required. The customer adds the pass to Apple Wallet and can access it on a compatible Apple Watch.

Can the same program support Android customers?

Yes. StayLoyal also supports Google Wallet, with platform-specific rendering.

Can a merchant change an active card?

Supported program and design changes can update active passes. Platform rendering and provider delivery rules still apply.

Does Apple Wallet process the purchase?

No. The loyalty pass does not replace the merchant's payment or point-of-sale system.
